Why Black Ops 4?

Who the hell cares about Call of Duty anymore?

Well, still a great many people, surprisingly enough. But unfortunately, not enough for Treyarch to give up the Black Ops series and move on with something new and original for a change. We’ve had Black Ops for a better part of a decade now, but apparently, somebody still thinks that there’s money left to squeeze out of this horse.

What am I talking about? Well, I’m referring to the tweet that a BlOps voice actor put out in response to a response to a tweet he posted:

So apparently, according to Frank Woods himself, the next Call of Duty game that Treyarch is making will be the fourth installment in the Black Ops series.

But why I’m a seemingly so p****d about this announcement? Well, like I said above, it mainly has to do with the fact that Black Ops shouldn’t really exist anymore. It was a fun and innovative idea, starting off with the Vietnam war and some crazy and cooky brainwashing, it went to the near future where terrorists attacked the world using drones, and then they went beyond the realm of logic with Black Ops 3, I’m not even going to go into that one, because it shouldn’t even have gone that far.

You know a series is dried out when you ditch your main storyline and opt for a new one. And you have to consider, after the change, is it really still the same game? It seems like they’re just tacking on “Black Ops” to any game that they s**t out, just so they can get people to buy it. Now, I know that this isn’t completely Treyarch’s fault here, I imagine that Activision is doing a fair bit of prodding to get Treyarch to bring back the audience they had with the first Black Ops. They don’t realize that nobody cares anymore.

And to be honest, nothing this game has will make people like it more than they like the idea of it now. I don’t even know what would be in the game, they’ve already done the futuristic thing to tears, and you’d think that if they were going to go to another time period or concept that they would…I don’t know…change the title of the game?

But hey, on the other side, this next CoD game could be set in the modern era, or in the Vietnam era again. I mean, Sledgehammer’s moved on from the future, and they’ve taken it all the way back to WWII. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that the next game will be Black Ops 4: Modern Black, in fact, it’s better to assume that than the worst scenario.

Wrapping this up, I have to say that I have absolutely no expectations for whatever this game turns out to be. I’ve had my fill of CoD for my lifetime, and so have many others who have once enjoyed the series. I’m not sure there’s anything they can do to bring back the glory of the old CoD days, but they can at least try.
