I’ve never talked about Dota before, hell I’m still not even sure what Dota is.
Wait a minute, yes I do, it’s just League.
Anyways, you know how when you play an online multiplayer competitive game for your whole life? And when you start getting way up there in rank, it’s only natural to create another account or buy the again in order to make a smurf account. Now, I’ve never done this before, mostly because I haven’t seen a single reason why I should. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me why people would create a new account with no progress made, in order to continue playing the game. Why would you just not play on your regular account and level up that one and get better at the game?
Well, I’ve figured that people either want the experience of a clean slate, they just want to troll noobs, or they’re just trying to d**k around with strategies that they’ve never used before and are scared to use on their regular account in case they screw it up.
I still think that’s all stupid.
And Dota does as well, because now they’ve implemented a system where you have to connect a phone number to your account, and that number cannot be tied to any other account out there. Meaning, you can’t create a smurf account without having a second phone that you just have lying around somewhere, and Valve also said that virtually generated phone numbers will not work. The reason they did this was because people were creating smurf accounts, and then they went into matchmaking and played against other players who actually had little experience playing the game. Of course, this meant that the more experienced players shat all over the newbies and that does not make for a fun game mechanic, so the phone number system was put into place.
Of course, this won’t be the end of smurfing, in fact not by a long shot. Players can just create more accounts based on phones they don’t own, maybe they use their parent’s phone or their friend’s phone who doesn’t play Dota. There are still ways to get around this.
But what do I think about smurfing?
Like I said, I think it’s stupid. I’d rather just play on the account I originally made when I downloaded or purchased the game and perpetually level that one up. I don’t ever feel a need to create a smurf just so I can beat up some noobs, that’s not satisfying in the least. I’d rather be playing against experienced players who I can improve from and play against and maybe even beat in a match. I want to work my way up the ladder, not start from the beginning again. I always want to be moving forward. I imagine many of the people who smurf are just looking for a cheap laugh.
In fact, I might go as far as to say that there are a lot of people who smurf who also cheat at the game. If they’re trying so hard to win, and if it takes literally nothing to feel satisfied, it makes perfect sense.
Of course, I could just be talking out of my a*s right now, so why don’t you leave a comment down below pertaining to what you think about smurfing. Do you do it? Or are you like me and can’t see a reason why?
